Delek Drilling is the leading Israeli energy entity focused on exploration, development, production and marketing of natural gas and condensate and had a pivotal role in all the major discoveries of natural gas offshore Israel. Among them, Leviathan – the largest deep water discovery in the world at that time (649 BCM), Tamar (306 BCM), Aphrodite in Cyprus (129 BCM) and others.

A little about us

Delek Drilling is the leading Israeli energy entity in the exploration, development, production and sale of natural gas and condensate. Delek Drilling is a limited partnership listed in the TASE and it is subsidiary partnership of the Delek Group.

Together with Noble Energy (today Chevron), Delek Drilling has led the natural gas revolution in Israel and played a pivotal role in the last few decades in expansion the natural gas based activity in the east Mediterranean.

Following decades of countless and fruitless discovery significant quantities of oil and gas, the government of Israel has privatised during the 90’s the activity of E&P within the country which enabled Delek Drilling to attracted a global player such as Nobal Energy (today Chevron) which led to the unprecedented breakthrough that took place in the 21st century.

Today Delek Drilling is partner in several major gas discoveries in the Eastern Mediterranean among them, Leviathan – the largest deep water discovery in the world at that time (649 BCM), Tamar (306 BCM), Aphrodite in Cyprus (129 BCM) and others.

Our main operations

Leviathan: a regional energy anchor

The Leviathan reservoir includes reserves and resources totalling approx. 649 BCM of natural gas and close to 41 million barrels of condensate. Leviathan contains close to two-thirds of the total gas resources discovered to date offshore Israel and was the largest deep water gas discoveries in the world in the first decade of the 21st century.

The Leviathan gas reservoir provides stable source of energy both to Israel, Egypt and Jordan and became a key provider of energy in the region.

Today, Delek Drilling is focused on Leviathan stage 2 which is designated to expand the quantities of production and allow exploration to new fields and markets.

Aphrodite Gas Field: The first natural gas field in Cyprus

The Aphrodite natural gas field, located in Block 12 of Cyprus’s exclusive economic zone, is expected to do for Cyprus what the Yam Tethys and Tamar reservoirs did for Israel: energy independence, a dramatic decrease in air pollution, strengthening of the industry and solidification of the geo-political ties in the Mediterranean Sea, since it is an international project which includes infrastructures and marketing of gas to countries in the region. In addition, it will bring in significant revenues to Cyprus’s treasury. These are just some of the benefits expected from development of the reservoir. Since it is the first gas discovery in Cyprus’s exclusive economic zone, with approx. 129 BCM of natural gas, the Aphrodite reservoir is expected to be a significant growth engine for Cyprus.
